A new exhibit honoring John “Johnnie” Aycock (1947-) was installed in the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame, which has served as a State Memorial since 1976. Inductees are chosen by the Texas Rangers for their contributions to the service or for making the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

John began his career with the Texas Department of Public Safety in 1968, joining the Texas Highway Patrol after serving in Vietnam and being awarded the Bronze Star. In 1982, he was promoted to the Texas Rangers, where he served with Company F in Temple, TX. Specializing in hostage negotiation, Sgt. Aycock is the only Texas Ranger to receive the DPS Medal of Valor twice. He retired in 2001 after a distinguished 33-year career with the Texas Department of Public Safety, including 19 years with the Texas Rangers.

John was asked to organize security for celebrity performers such as George Strait, Willie Nelson, and ZZ Top. A collection of guitar pics used by them are on display.
